COLLEDILÀ Chianti Classico Gran Selezione
Distinctive traits: ripe red fruit and plum, complex and elegant structure
This single vineyard Sangiovese lies on a clayey-calcareous soil, known as “alberese”, in the geological formation of Monte Morello, one of the most representative typologies of the Chianti Classico denomination: very stony soil, rich in calcium carbonate and clay and poor in organic substance.
Harvest: Hand picking and selection of the best grapes in the Colledilà vineyard on October 4, 2019. Ageing: 22 months in 500 litre-tonneaux, of which 30% new and 70% second passage Bottling: March 8, 2022. Alcohol: 14% vol.
Ruby red color. Intense and elegant nose with ripe plum, wood notes and caramel. Round, silky and elegant in the mouth with velvety tannins, which, together with a crisp acidity, gives a wrapped softening mouthfeel.
"Distinctly savory, this red delivers grassy, thyme and menthol aromas and flavors allied to cherry, strawberry and loam. Angular and dense, with the fruit component emerging with air. Deftly balanced and complex, this is long and reveals an aftertaste of cherry, berry, mineral and herbal accents. Best from 2025 through 2043. –Bruce Sanderson.
